Duties
Some of what you'll do:
Conduct inspections at construction, ship building/breaking, maritime and fixed industry sites, with an emphasis on crane and rigging safety.
Determine whether employers are complying with safety and health standards, general duty clauses and safe employee exposure limits to health hazards.
Issue citations, including orders and notices of immediate restraint.
Perform thorough crane inspections related to auditor performance, including extensive evidence gathering; reviewing paperwork and ensuring all load tests were performed correctly.
Conduct interviews, review written materials, data sheets, reports and records.
Present verbal and written reports of your findings to employers and employee representatives; offer suggestions for abatement, ensure abatements of hazards has been accomplished.
Determine if accredited crane certifiers within the state of Washington are complying with crane certification requirements within WAC safety standards and applicable ASME B30 series inspection requirements.
Lead other compliance safety officers in complex investigations and inspections; provide technical input for program development.
Qualifications
Required:
A certified tower or mobile crane operator with 5 year's experience of operating and inspecting cranes.
OR
A certified crane inspector from one of the following: Crane Certification Association of America (CCAA), North American Crane Bureau (NACB), Cal-OSHA, National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), Washington State or equivalent.
OR
5 years' experience as a crane certifier/inspector and is knowledgeable of cranes used in the construction and maritime industries. Or a qualified crane mechanic or crane technician with 5 years' experience working with and inspecting cranes.
OR
Four years of experience as a Safety & Health Specialist 3, with a background in the construction, maritime, ship building and general industries with regard to crane and rigging safety.
Desired:
Tower crane operator or certifier/technician of tower cranes with the ability to climb and inspect multiple tower cranes several times a month and self-rescue if needed.
Here's what we're looking for:
A strong desire to ensure worker safety with a thorough understanding of safety and health rules and regulations and ability to identify safety related hazards in a variety of workplaces.
Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills with ability to write comprehensive and concise reports detailing identified hazards.
Computer skill with the ability to learn to operate proprietary computer programs and Microsoft Office Suite, as well as able to use Dell & Apple i-phone products.
Willing to work an unscheduled workweek of 40 hours with frequent travel within the region and other L&I locations to visit employer worksites and attend meetings. Days and hours may vary depending on workload, occasionally working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
